Parenting Programs

in Peterborough, NH and throughout the Eastern Monadnock Region

**All of our parenting groups are currently online via Zoom. They are all free while they are virtual.

Are you struggling with relating to your teen? Unsure how to become the parent you’ve always thought you could be? Our parenting groups and programs offer a collaborative and welcoming environment where you can both be heard and learn the skills you’re looking for from other parents and our expert parent educators. Depending on the program, you may meet weekly throughout the school year or it may be a single event, sometimes morphing into a weekly group.

Making Our Programs Accessible to All

In addition to our on-site parenting groups held at The River Center in Peterborough, we also hold programs in other towns of the Eastern Monadnock region such as Jaffrey and New Ipswich. We want our programs to be accessible to all. Living in the Monadnock area, we know that transportation can be a barrier to many.

Parenting Topics

Our parenting programs cover a variety of topics from setting limits with your toddlers to developing and maintaining a relationship of connection with your teens as they become emerging adults. These topics have covered a wide range including the following:

Parenting Tweens (Online)
Mar 11 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

flyer describing the parenting tweens groupThis is a support and learning group for parents of children going through the developmental shift between the tween years and the teen years. This is a critically important time for parents who also must allow a developmental shift in themselves. Parents must grow with their children and shift their expectations in order to meet the new needs and demands of the teen years.

This group meets bi-weekly via Zoom and is free while virtual. Bonnie Harris is the parent educator leading the program.

The group is for Monadnock area families with children ages 10-14 years old, Out-of-state participants should email info@rivercenter.us for more information.

Register only for the first date you will attend.

The Crisis of Connection
Mar 11 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Author Niobe Way will discuss the widespread alienation and disconnection that adolescents, especially boys, often struggle with.

“Boys will be boys.” It’s a phrase that’s often used to describe the mischievous, competitive, or aggressive behavior of some boys and men. However, when we use this phrase, we may not realize that we’re helping to perpetuate a stereotype. In an era of increasing rates of suicide and violence among boys and young men, our cultural fixation on men being strong, autonomous, and emotionless deserves to be reevaluated.

See the ABLE not the Label
Mar 25 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

It takes a village to raise a child. Especially if your child has different needs than others. See the ABLE not the LABEL seeks to help parents in the Monadnock region create a village around these awesome kiddos. Together, we will form a peer connection and social support network of individuals working through similar challenges to help each other find and access community supports, advice, advocacy and maybe even a little levity.

Facilitated by Mandy Carter, mother of 2 children with special needs, and Jillian Mercier, mother of 5 children with special needs. This group meet once monthly for 90 minutes via Zoom on the 4th Thursday of each month.

Contact Mandy at acarter AT rivercenter.us (remove spaces, replace AT with @) or call us at (603) 924-6800 for more info.
